March 2003 - Sidney Barnes returns to the CSC!

Friday 28th March 2003 saw the return of Sidney Barnes to the Dome where he had made his UK debut! Once again it turned out to be a very, very special night as Sid performed for the first time ever, anywhere, his unissued Jobete song, "Safety zone", along with "Heart trouble" which he co-wrote for The Parliaments on Golden World records, and his two perenial Northern Soul classic, "You'll always be in style" and "I hurt on the other side".  Sid invited some dancers up on the stage to dance along with him as he sang as he wanted a "Soul Train" effect!

Sid was a star as ever and is in top form. I really enjoyed the Dome and had a ball with the regulars and occasionals. Someone spiked my Newky Broon though and I'm still pissed.

Mr C
You must have been very pissed or really enjoying yourself, cos you were spotted dancing for a substantial period of time. You must of been shamed into it by the regular dance floor action by the CSC Dj's...who says DJ's don't dance! Good dancing crowd right through to  the end ,even putting all the lights on didn't clear the floor. Top night!

Missed the last Dome due to a combination of bad weather and the Crossfire night being on the following night, so you can imagine my delight when South Central  guards managed to pick the March 28th for their first 24 hour strike! I had all sorts of contingencies about getting up there this time, ranging from taxis to Gatwick to hiring a Hercules and free falling in. There was one moment that I've rarely experienced  - it was during "She Just Sits There" - Ralph Graham. Now I've loved this for a while, but tonight when it came out of the speakers it almost grabbed me by the throat, shook me and said fucking listen this is SOUL. Just seemed so apt and relevant. When it finished I had a bloody great lump in my throat! Stuart and Paul Mac finished the night off with some excellent stuff, but I'll  never forget that Ralph Graham moment.
